Saat Hindustani was the debut movie of Amitabh Bachchan filled with the theme of patriotism. The film may not have delivered at the box office, but it was the first appearance of the legend himself. In a supporting role, Amitabh Bachchan as a Muslim poet by far was a standout performance for a young lad. It isn’t a movie that everyone remembers but sure is one that earned Bachchan the critics’ acclamation.

The plot revolves around Dr. Bhaskar (Amitabh Bachchan) who is an empathetic and kind doctor who feels for his patients and their background conditions acutely. He meets and treats Anand (Rajesh Khanna) who is suffering from a rare sort of cancer and hardly has six months of survival left in him. Anand always stays jolly and happy not letting his medical conditions come in the way. He befriends Bhaskar dearly, and always is looking out to help others and to spread joy, so as to people remember him in that way.
Soon Anand also helps Bhaskar with his life love when he has feelings for one of his own patients. In such a manner he spends the rest of his time ecstatically and affectionately. Though in the end, Anand faces his fate, he leaves an intense impact on Bhaskar’s life, and he continues to treat his patients but with more empathy and kindness now. For someone who is into the idea of binging Bachchan movies on a roll, Anand has to be on that list as it is regarded to be one of the best of Amitabh Bachchan’s movies.

“Jab tak baithne ko na kaha jaye, sharaafat se khade raho, yeh police station hai tumhare baap ka ghar nahi!” Zanjeer was the making of the young angry man. Amitabh Bachchan had delivered after a sustained number of movies with his role of Officer Vijay Khanna. This was it for him, the mark had been made. Zanjeer was a megahit at the box office and a start to a new era in Bollywood.
After witnessing the murder of both his parents in childhood, Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) grows up to become a police inspector. He fights and takes down a number of gangs. On one such endeavor, he runs across Mala (Jaya Bachchan) who was a witness to one of the gang’s crimes but was paid off by the gang members. She later has a change of heart when Vijay shows her the after-effects of the hideous crimes that were committed. Later on, he gets caught up with fake corruption charges and deceits that were cooked by the following gang. At the end of the movie, Vijay confronts the gang and its leader and soon realizes that they were responsible for the killing of his parents as well. Evidently in the end Vijay comes out victorious and his and Mala’s love life blossoms further.
Amar Akbar Anthony
Soon followed a number of blockbuster movies under his belt- Namaak Haran, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Deewar, Kabhi Kabhie, Adalat, and then came Amar Akbar Anthony. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, and Vinod Khana in lead roles. This is just the movie to define Amitabh Bachchan and his prowess. Amar Akbar Anthony puts together a number of emotions and different issues that were prominent in the country back then. It’s a complete entertainer package with its fair share and bits of family drama, brawling action, and favorable triumph moments to win the hearts of the audience.
Three brothers Amar, Akbar, and Anthony get separated in childhood. And are raised in three different religious families after a long list of enduring consequences. Confusions and contretemps lead to the separation of the whole family. Cut to the present, twenty years later the boys have grown up. And each one has become a Hindu Policeman (Amar), a Muslim Qawwali Singer (Akbar), and a Christian Liquor Seller (Anthony). The past haunts them back and what follows is a series of more family drama and scuffles with the bad boys. Surely this is a must-watch Amitabh Bachchan movie.

If any fanatic takes the name of Amitabh Bachchan, Sholay is bound to be present in the second sentence itself. A mega-blockbuster that ran for years in theatres. With still commemorated dialogues and action sequences, Sholay was a defining factor not just for Amitabh Bachchan but for Indian Cinema itself.
Starring Bachchan (Jai) and Dharmendra (Veeru) in lead roles with Jaya Bachchan (Radha) and Hema Malini (Basanti) as their love interests, the movie begins with Sanjeev Kumar as Thakur who calls upon thieves Jai and Veeru to help him take down Gabbar Singh the antagonist of the film. The direction, cinematography, and dialogues are remarked upon even today. It has a good amount of humor and emotional details which takes the audience on a hell of a ride. The performance of the cast is highly laudable. Sholay is one of the finest of Amitabh Bachchan movies.

The young angry man continued his series of chartbusters. And next in line was Don for which Amitabh Bachchan also claimed the Filmfare for the Best Actor. With a hit list of songs delivered and a number of dialogues still reminisced. Don was later remade by Farhan Akhtar starring Shah Rukh Khan and subsequently. A sequel of it is as well. It was remodeled into several South Indian movies as well.
Amitabh Bachchan playing a double role in this was as sensational as he could be. Who doesn’t remember, “Don ko pakadna mushkil he nahi, namumkin hai!” It was Bachchan maturing over the years bringing in his inner calmness and sophistication on the screen.

Satte pe Satta
One of Kishore Kumar’s super-duper hit songs “Dilbar mere, kab tak mujhe, aise he tadpaaoge” wasn’t just the stand-out figure from this movie, like Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini’ on-screen romance continued to bloom. Satte pe Satta revolves around the story of Ravi Anand (Amitabh Bachchan) and his six younger siblings who all grew up as orphans and lack any social skills or manners. He soon falls in love with Indu (Hema Malini) and gets married to her, but lies to her that he only has one younger sibling since she is always very orderly and civil. One thing leads to another and Indu struggles with her brothers-in-law trying to imbibe in them some decency. Later on, the movie twists as all the boys fall in love with six women and then follows a plot of twirls.
Satte pe Satta is a must-watch Amitabh Bachchan movie. The film has everything in it: comedy, action, and thrill. It has created something like this in the 80s itself is a noteworthy feat.

Amitabh Bachchan’ introductory dialogue in this movie itself sets the tone for what is come up next, ab isska bhi dialogue bol he dete hai- “ Vijay Dinanath Chauhan… poora naam, baap ka naam Dinanath Chauhan, maa ka naam Suhasini Chauhan, gaav Mandva, umar chattis saal.. nauu mahina aath din..aur yeh solva ghanta chalu hai, hain!”
The title of the movie was taken from a poem that Amitabh Bachchan’s father Harivansh Rai Bachchan had written down, and the poem also been used at the beginning of the movie. Amitabh Bachchan went on to win his first National Film Award for the Best Actor for his performance in the film. Though budget wise Agneepath did not earn as much as expected at the box office. The movie was later remade by Karan Johar starring Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt. Amongst the best, Agneepath is another fine piece of work to add to Bachchan’s collection. His performance can be stated as a crème da le crème for years to come.

After his brief failed spell at politics, Bachchan was back to business with his performance in and as Shahenshah. The hype was insane back then, and why not, he was back after a long time and everyone still remembers everyone’s baap. Bachchan plays the role of a comic policeman and takes down criminals in his own unusual ways.
To avenge his father’s death he is set out to find and take down the evildoer Amrish Puri. Imbibing in the film current political scenarios and realistic aspects from different parts of the country, the audience accepted and appreciated the movie to a great extent. A ‘to watch Amitabh Bachchan Movies list’ should and definitely have Shahenshah on it.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
A family drama with countless sentiments and heartwarming depictions. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is a perfect ménage watch. With a star cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol Devgn, and Kareena Kapoor. The movie won the hearts of the audience bestowing upon us an emotional wreck.
The movie was a box office success with multiple screenings outside the country as well. The theme of the movie is simple, and so wonderfully portrayed. With typical prior Karan Johar drama and rendering style, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham still lives in us, and will forevermore. The movie could be said to mark Amitabh Bachchan’s change in endeavors and character. An overall change in his outlook, from a young angry man who seeks revenge to an elderly matured father.

An unofficial remake of the Hollywood movie ‘Make Way for Tomorrow’. But Baghban is another movie that has stayed in the hearts of the fans over all these years. The success of these movies is the wonderful storytelling that addressed a number of realistic affairs and then evidently the performance of the cast depicting the screenplay on-screen magnificently.
Baghban is still referred to in comical references when talking about youngsters not taking care of their parents, but the credit is deserved. Ravi Chopra put together a heart-rending plot with the chemistry of Bachchan and Hema Malini at the forefront.

The Godfather of Bollywood. One of the finest works of Ram Gopal Verma. And oh how remarkable was Amitabh Bachchan in this one. It was just like the olden golden days to watch Bachchan in the role of Subhash Sarkar. With a perfect blend of dark drama and staggering individual performances, Sarkar is a great trilogy to watch for. Ram Gopal Verma has put together politics and crime. And delivered an important message through Sarkar.

Black by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is another beautiful Amitabh Bachchan movie as he continues to age like a fine wine. The film is a pick of the bunch and definitely our go-to of the Amitabh Bachchan movies. He went on to win the National Film Award for the Best Actor for his performance in it. He also claimed the Filmfare Award and Filmfare Critics Award for the Best Actor. The storyline is so marvelous dealing with special aids. The performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherji are highly commendable. Both breathing life into their characters.
Bachchan plays the role of Debraj Sahai, an elderly teacher who is also an alcoholic. He is on the job to teach Michelle (played by Rani Mukherjee) who has been blind and deaf since childhood to at least express and communicate on her own. Bachchan in his own harsh ways and strokes helps Michelle to achieve her life’s goals. Black is an emotional watch, and to experience Bachchan in that role is truly sublime. If you haven’t watched Black yet, well watch it already! It is a first-class performance and an exceptional watch in all of Amitabh Bachchan movies.
Aaaaah! Remembering our childhood days right now. Bhootnath is another dazzling watch with Amitabh Bachchan. As the ghost who has been confined as one in his house due to his own family issues. When Aditya and Anjali along with their kid Banku move into the Nath Villa, Bachchan befriends Banku. And they two enjoy their adventures. Soon Anjali comes to know about Bhootnath’s truth and wants to free him of his misery. The film is a beautiful depiction of yet again filled with realistic issues and revolving around them.

Another back-to-back National Film and Filmfare Award for Amitabh Bachchan. As he yet again captivates our hearts with Paa playing the role of Auro. It is odd for a senior citizen to play a teenager, to adapt to the conditions and behavioral patterns. But if anybody could have done it, it is Amitabh Bachchan. He has played Auro gracefully. Bringing in the mischiefs and innocence of a teenager. But the seriousness of the disease at his hands. Paa is one of the best new Amitabh Bachchan’ movies.
With a fresh concept at hand, Shoojit Sircar has dealt beautifully with Piku. As we see Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. His record fourth National Film Award for the Best Actor. And subsequently, the Filmfare Critics Award for the Best Actor was awarded to him for his performance. His character was so exquisitely depicted and presented that you experience a huge contrast in his early movies and this one. The father-daughter that they both create is delightfully detailed. Piku is a wonderful family entertainer with Bachchan at his paramount, this movie is an unmissable Amitabh Bachchan movie.

Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdury, Pink is a new-gen thriller film that focuses on social issues. The movie came out at a time when we least expected it from Bollywood. And let’s be honest it is still a very underrated and underappreciated movie. Pink speaks the truth and with marvy storytelling. Playing the character of Deepak a retired lawyer, Bachchan has once again proved his versatility and dynamism. Tapsee Pannu was phenomenal and it’s not wrong to say that this is one of her best works.

102 Not Out
Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor in lead roles, 102 Not Out is a heart-warming tale of a father and son with the theme presented in a modern styled Baghban. It’s a family entertainer with comedy and tragedy blended together to appeal to all age groups. The movie is a very smart screenplay with nearly just three characters on screen. And the audience lost in their sheer brilliance and comic deliveries. Amitabh Bachchan as Dattatraya who is 102 years old. And Rishi Kapoor as Babulal (Amitabh’s son) who is 75 years old exerts great character and influence to convey the message of the film. It’s no typical Bachchan action and dialogue sequenced movie, but one that will make an impact and win your affection.
