Gangs Of London

Gangs Of London is a crime drama–action thriller created by Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery for Britain’s Sky Atlantic.

“There is no rest for me in this world. Perhaps in the next”. Yeah, Blinder’s fam you got that right. We have already seen one familiar with gang warfare, Peaky Blinders. But somewhere the influence is more of “Funny Games”.

A Prayer Before Dawns’ Joe Cole plays Sean Wallace, a resentful successor to the throne who sends shockwaves across the streets of the capital and the various other families who rule there. He just wants to know the one who triggered the rift.

And yeah I won’t mind if you call it the modern-day version of Peaky Blinders. Without Further Ado let’s unfold this phenomenal web series. You will surely have a remarkable experience with this.

Gangs Of London Season 1 – Synopsis

Gangs of London is an epic portrayal of city-dwelling criminal families and internal power struggles. In the title sequence, we saw the London skyline upside down.

As we move further, we realize that the skyline is from the perspective of someone being waking up and realizing that he’s being hung from a rooftop by one foot. Later, his rope was burnt and he hurtled down the pavement.

After a week, we were introduced to Finn Wallance(Colm Meaney), London’s biggest criminal who dealt in drugs, murders, guns, in short, a true Gangster.

When he went for a deal, a breathtaking incident happened with Wallace. Wallace’s driver Jack sees Ioan and tries to scare him off.

When he sees that it’s Wallace, he shoots Wallace through the peephole, then shoots him dead when Wallace tries to grab his gun.

When the two guys drive off, Ioan manages to upend Jack as he chases them.

And things take a turn when patriarch Finn Wallace – head of the family for more than 20-years – is assassinated, paving the way for bloody retribution as the gang seeks out those responsible for his brutal death.

Finn’s hotheaded son and heir, Sean who wants retribution, very soon. He announces the end of all factions’ freedom to operate until the killer is found.

At Wallace’s funeral, his son Sean (Joe Cole) is seething; he has no idea who is responsible for his father’s death, but he has his suspicions.

There are Pakistani heroin traffickers, Kurdish militants, Albanian Mafiosi, and even a thuggish Welsh traveling community all jostling in these ten episodes of visceral, thrill ride packed with emotion and bloodshed.

In short, come here for fights and stay with fights.

Gangs Of London Season 1 -Review

Gangs Of London has all its focus on the events followed by the assassination of Finn Wallace. As it is directed by Gareth Evans, who is the brilliant mind behind The Raid and The Raid, my expectations were at their peak.

His physics behind every tremendous action sequence is very appealing.

The best part of this show is that it gripped itself to its genre and the level of action is off the limits(yes! I am going to say this again and again).

The show has a tremendous cast and somewhere a complicated plot.

The show is set in a version of modern-day London where a consortium of gangs, uneasily brought together by the Irish mobster Finn Wallace (played by Colm Meaney), is responsible for virtually all crime.

He is assassinated shortly and to find the true culprit of his father’s death Sean(Finn’s son) has made enemies of every significant faction that the Wallace clan did regular business with.

It included Pakistani heroin traffickers, Kurdish militants, Albanian Mafiosi, and even a thuggish Welsh traveling community.

From the very first episode, this is a show that grabs your attention and rarely ever eases up.

This British gangster drama has all the features you could hope for to ensure a great experience: a strong scenery-chewing cast, an enticing nail-biting plot, Jaw-Dropping brutal violence, excellent cinematography, sharp editing, and A blast of absolutely stunning and unmatched action sequences that will blow your mind away.

Gangs Of London – Direction And Screenplay

Gangs of London is directed by Gareth Evans, Corin Hardy, and Xavier Gens. Xavier mentioned in an interview that they were exchanging ideas and pushing themselves. Truly, in every aspect, we can see this.

Xavier is best known for Frontieres'(2007). Gareth Evans made it an intense show which is filled with some truly shocking and unexpected moments that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

The mind-blowing action sequences got many praises from the Critics.

They all expressed themselves in the best organic cinematic way possible. You should surely stream this brilliant hardcore action series.

And there is going to be a season 2 filled with utter carnage. Let’s have a look at what’s there in it.

Gangs Of London Season 2 – Cast

The most important thing about Gangs Of London season 2 is that this time director Corin Hardy will be joined by Marcela Said (Lupin) and Nima Nourizadeh (Little America).

Season 1 ‘s star Joe Cole’s return hasn’t been decided yet but names of other members have been confirmed. Sope Dirisu(Elliot), Michelle Fairley(Marian Wallace), Brian Vernel(Billy Warnace)Brian Vernel, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Lucian Msamati, Paapa Essiedu, Valene Kane, Orli Shuka, Asif Raza, and Narges Rashid.

In the finale, we saw Sean plot a drive against the people responsible for his father’s assassination.

Also, there are eyes on him and his mother of the people who want to take over the family business dealings. After the exposure of Elliot, he tries to save himself but he is still targeted by the people of the underworld in London.

Gangs Of London Season 2 is going to happen. According to reports, it is most likely to release in 2022. We can expect a full focus on Elliot as he has Finn’s, Sim Card.

Also, we saw that the final moments show that Mariana wasn’t killed by Ed on a park bench. That’s gonna take a huge turn.

There is also speculation about the mysterious investors pulling strings from behind the curtain since the beginning. Corin mentioned in an interview that season 2 is going to have “ inventive, imaginative, unexpected and vicious set-pieces”.

If you haven’t already streamed, stream it now.
