Sacred games: Where is season 3?

Scared games is a crime drama thriller series that was released on July 6, 2018. It was the first-ever Indian Netflix original series. Netflix India was not a thing until sacred games came out. And the series was huge hit considering that even if it was something new to Indians, they took it pretty well.

It isn’t like Netflix was never heard of before in India, but Indian tends to watch the news and daily soaps more than web series, followed by Indian youth who were busy watching movies or playing video games. Until and unless they knew how to browse Netflix in India. I mean, let’s be clear, there are more ways to binge Netflix. (Now if you get it, then Congrats! Otherwise, let’s move on. We are not getting into “free” ways of browsing Netflix.)

It was such a huge hit that it was almost considered that this will be a huge change in India regarding series. No offense to Indian daily soaps, but they are mostly made to be watched by housewives having the same original concepts of “saas and bahu” ( Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law)

  • Sacred games: Why it was a huge hit?

First of all, the great talented actors of this show. Now don’t get offended if we say “Great” considering that in Bollywood only khans and Kapoor’s (and other huge “nepotic” names) are considered to be “Great”. (Thank god that audience now realizes that there is something more to the art of Acting.)

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who plays the role of a gangster named Ganesh Gaitonde, is a small actor who played side roles, seems to be starting his career with Aamir khan’s film “Sarfarosh”.He then appeared in different movies including Rajkumar Hirani’s “Munna Bhai MBBS” Yeah you heard it right. The thief caught by the father of Munna Bhai is the great ever Nawaz. (Oh Boy, I feel proud!)

He then worked in a short film with Imraan khan which was “Bypass” in 2003. He then did quite a job appearing in various films like talaash, Bajrangi bhaijaan, Gangs of wasseypur, and kick. And he got a great appreciation for these roles.

It was a great surprise to see him in a huge role as a gangster. The audience loved his character as well as his work and, not gonna lie, he was exceptionally good in this series. For sure, one of his best works.

Secondly, Pankaj Tripathi, who played “Guruji” in the series, did his debut with the film Run, with a small role. His first film as a lead actor was “Gurgaon”. He also did films like gangs of wasseypur, fukrey (From which, weirdly, he got a literal name “Guruji”) following its sequel and Newton, which was India’s official entry for the Academy Award in best foreign film category.

He never got much of an appreciation. But his job in sacred games was sure appreciated by the audience, he also claims that this was one of the tough roles he has ever played. Apart from sacred games, he was also featured in Amazon’s huge hit, Mirzapur, and was greatly appreciated.

Saif Ali Khan, who plays the role of a cop named “Sartaj” in the series, is already known for his roles in Kal ho na ho, hum tum, hum sath sath hai, race, followed by its sequels and various big Bollywood hits!

But we can see a huge difference in previous of his roles and his role in sacred games. We can see him playing a whole different role and being his best at making the character of Sartaj real. For me, I came to know that this guy can act after I saw him as Sartaj. And maybe it’s not just me. Even he claimed that he feels shameful when he looks back at his previous roles done by him and realized he had a lot to learn. (But you got it all now saif! You won!)

After sacred games, his negative role in the film tanahaji was cherry on the top of the cake. This guy told us that, his Sartaj role being so good was not just a coincidence but his hard work. (To be honest, I went to see tanahaji for him. No hate to Ajay Devgan, he is best at his place)

After this, talented and great caste in this series, which was not just Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi and Saif Ali Khan, but also the other actors who were supporting or recurrent throughout the show, like Radhika Apte, Kubra Sait, Kalki Koechlin, and many others, who made this show huge.

And we can’t ignore the direction and the story writing. The series was based on the book Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel “sacred games”. And the caste has done a great job of putting it put as a great show and also an amazing start for web series in India.

  • Sacred games: Was Season 1  better?

Okay, for a fact, sacred games season 1 got a huge hype in India and was also well appreciated by other foreign countries. The show was so straight forward and thrilling that it made the audience expect a lot more than they expected from season 1.

Also, season one was all about this gangster, who is planning huge harm to the city for which he had to “Sacrifice”. The season one shows the death of the gangster Ganesh and then makes season 2 as a prequel, which will tell us who is Ganesh gaitonde and why he wants to end Mumbai. Again, it’s not just all about his past, the show jumps between present, and reason why it happened.

The second season also had all these end loops hanging around and the unnecessary stuff all over the place, which made the season nothing but lengthy. It just seemed that they wanted to push it to season 3, and they did. (Also, the show was a huge hit, so why not?)

  • Sacred games: Season 3: Expectations and release date

Of course, season two showed us just that they entered a password for a bomb, and ended it leaving us curious with questions like was it right? Did they just blow Mumbai up in the air?

But if the password is right then, what changes it will bring. What circumstances will they face after they damaged a whole damn city? (They could do two things to us like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: end game did basically. Like what if the world faces the end of the half population and what if they defeated Thanos. Crappy, but relatable example)

And if not, we can get a whole new plot of the cops chasing them and new reasons for “season 4” too! Which should not happen if it’s just going to ruin the show.

Talking about the release date, the show hasn’t even confirmed the news of season 3 and it has almost been a year now. We should have been expecting it anytime soon in August 2020, but no official announcement has been done by the caste yet. And after this pandemic we are facing, it’s obvious if the show gets delayed further if they haven’t completed the shoot yet. But let’s hope for the best!

Let us know your theories in the comments section and your favorite characters from the series. What do you think? Gaitonde and Guruji succeeded in his mission?
