NOTE- If you haven’t watched The haunting of the hill house yet, you can still read this review and directly watch The haunting of Bly manor. The shows are not related to each other at all.

The haunting of Bly manor: Plot

The haunting of bly manor

The show revolves around Bly manor as the title explains. Wingrave family is finding an au pair for their two children and hence they put an advertisement out. Danielle, who likes to be called Dani, goes in for an interview for the given advertisement. Getting the job, Dani heads towards to the bly manor. (I hope this is not a spoiler because we see Dani in the manor in Trailer too.)

Each character in this show has their own different stories. There is Owen Sharma, who is a cook for the manor. Jamie, who is a gardener and Hannah Grose is a housekeeper. The children’s parents have passed away is the reason their uncle, Henry Wingrave, hired an au pair.

The manor has so many pasts and hence, weird things keep happening there. The show is all about showing the past of the mansion and the characters, each one getting special enough time to show their past.

The haunting of Bly manor: Writing, Direction And “Directors”

The haunting of bly manor

The haunting of Bly manor is the second Season to “The haunting” era they are creating. They seem to be keeping The haunting as there main world and choosing different haunted mansions or houses. The first part of The haunting series is The haunting of The hill house which was Directed and written by our one and only Mike Flanagan. (And this man here is a genius. And when I say genius, I mean an actual extreme level of genius)

And hence The haunting of The hill house turned to be a masterpiece for the majority of people out there. But The haunting of Bly Manor is different. And why you ask? First of all, only one episode is directed by Mr. Mike Flanagan i.e. The first episode, “The Great Good Place”. And well I don’t know about others, I was excited about the show because of Mike Flanagan.

And that’s okay, if someone else has something great to bring on the table, that is okay with us. But apparently, they had these bunch of directors for the show. They approximately had 7 directors working for the show for different episodes. (I am not even exaggerating. Actually, I will list down the episode and their directors and writers for you).

We can’t certainly complain about that though, because the direction was Great throughout the season. ( And I will talk about some episodes that I loved in this show in my upcoming article Where I would be explaining The haunting of Bly manor).

And talking about the writing of the show, it is amazing. The haunting of bly manor is based on the book “The turns of the screw” by henry James. And the characters are so well written. We get to spend time with the characters and the mansion. We get to see them grow throughout the season and learn about them. And not just a particular character, we get to know each one of them enough to understand the story and why they are feeling what they are feeling.

Haunting of the hill house: Acting

I will talk about the characters and the actors performing in detail soon. But for now, let’s see how amazing they were at playing their parts.

Victoria Pedretti

The haunting of bly manor

We all know how amazing victoria is. We saw her in the first season, The haunting of The hill house. Then she appeared as “Love” in the second season of YOU. And she has nailed every character she played. I am absolutely in love with how good this woman is at her job.

And on top of it, she is gorgeous. She just blends in the character she chooses and we can directly connect with her. And she was as amazing in The Haunting of Bly Manor.

T’nia Miller

The haunting of bly manor

This woman was a surprise for me. I guess I am seeing her for the very first time now but all of you who have watched “Sex Education” must be familiar with her. And I was gonna say she was cherry on top, but god damn, she is the whole cake.

I am so happy to discover her and, I can’t say anything but, She was perfectly splendid in the show. (You will know what I did here once you watch the show)

Rahul Kohli

The haunting of bly manor

Yes, you guessed it right. Indian. Punjabi. And I keep saying this about every actor but He was amazing as well. He plays Owen, the cook, in the show and yes he was great in the show.

The way he carried himself actually as this innocent but goofy man, who is a chef and Oh boy, I was buying it all. (I would appreciate the casting of the show. There is not one actor in the show I didn’t particularly like.)

Henry Thomas

The haunting of bly manor

This man, Oh. My. God. I can’t tell you why I thought he was amazing in the show because it will be a spoiler. But this man can act. I wish I could talk about him more but, SPOILERS!

I will talk about him though, soon. But man oh man, Henry Thomas can get all the awards and I wouldn’t even mind. That’s how good he is.

The haunting of bly manor

Just know that all the actors in the show were great. Because I can’t talk about them because of the spoilers. Even the two child actors were amazing but I can’t talk about any of them. I loved the casting of the show. It was perfect.

The Haunting of Bly manor: Conclusion

The haunting of bly manor

The haunting of Bly Manor is more of a gothic romance show. So it is not as scary and horrific as The haunting of the hill house. But the show has a great story, an amazing direction, and is very well written. It also has these hidden ghosts like the first season which are so fun to find and gives this show a creepy feel.

It is a slow burn. It is an artistic show which can give you chills but in a different manner. But do we like the show? YESS! Do we prefer it over the amazing The haunting of hill house? NOPE. No one will.

Let us know what do you think about the show. Did you find all of the hidden ghosts in the show? Do you like it better than The haunting of the hill house?

Soon we will be doing a discussion or explanation article on The haunting of bly manor. If you are someone who wants to read more about the show, stay tuned for it. Until then, spread love. Spread positivity. Be kind. Peace!
